Karyn Pettit is a PreKindergarten teacher at Adel Elementary School. She is celebrating 25 years with ADM this year. Education, as Karyn states, runs in her family. Her mom, aunts, and cousins have all been in education. Karyn graduated from University of Northern Iowa with her BA in Elementary Education and she received her reading endorsement from Upper Iowa University. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and chose ADM because she student taught in a kindergarten class at Adel Elementary and loved the structure. She stays because she enjoys the small community and class sizes, the structure of team planning, and commitment to doing what is best for kids. When reflecting on what she enjoys most about her teaching role, Karyn stated, “I love to see the social-emotional growth and learning that takes place across the school year.”
Karyn is a mom and stepmom to 4 boys, a Mimi to her grandkids, and a wife to her husband who teaches 5th grade in Urbandale. Outside of school, Karyn enjoys baking, cooking, and taking her dog, Diesel, on walks.
