The Accelerating Artist Program (AAP) at DeSoto Intermediate was awarded a $5,000 grant for their innovative program. Joslyn Hagener, Art Teacher at DeSoto Intermediate, got to accept this award and present the project at the ITAG Conference on October 15th. The grant application was put together by Joslyn Hagener and Ashlee Nichols, Math Interventionist (and former GATE Teacher) at DeSoto Intermediate.

Art nurtures creativity and creativity leads us to innovation. This program gives students the opportunity to showcase and enhance their talents and creativity in the visual arts. A group of gifted and talented artists from DI are selected to participate in AAP. They meet once a week for an hour and a half after school to work with like minded peers to improve and showcase their art. This year, students will be able to participate in art contests, art field trips, experiment with a wider variety of art materials, and make art for the community. DeSoto Intermediate is excited to be able to offer this program to their students!
