First grade students at Adel Elementary are studying ways we can keep our bodies healthy.
Adel Elementary adopted Amplify CKLA for literacy instruction this year. Each day, first grade students are participating in a knowledge lesson that focuses on a topic. As they learn about a topic, they dig in by sharing read alouds, discussing and asking questions about what they read, and writing about what they learned.
The first grade students are currently in The Human Body Unit. They have learned the parts and functions of the following body systems: skeletal, muscular, digestive, circulatory, and nervous. At the end of the unit, students made connections between the systems and learned about how to take care of their bodies. Specifically, classrooms learned about how the food we eat keeps our bodies healthy. Each student then wrote about their learning.
