On Thursday, May 9, eighth grader Owen Horgen performed with the All-Iowa Eighth Grade Honor Band at the Iowa Bandmasters Association conference. Owen was selected as one of the best eighth grade trumpet players in the state during an audition process in October. There were only eighteen trumpet players selected to participate!
Coming together on Thursday, these 8th graders practiced all morning and then performed a concert that afternoon for their families and hundreds of band teachers. The performance included the world premiere of a piece composed by the guest conductor, Darryl Johnson II, called “Avian Fire”. The piece was commissioned by the Iowa Bandmasters Association to be written and performed at this concert specifically for these outstanding eighth grade musicians.
Owen, of course, represented ADM very well by working hard for the audition, preparing the concert music, and displaying exemplary character during the event. We are so incredibly proud of you Owen!
