The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade literacy classes all studied poetry before winter break. This unit consisted of investigating all kinds of poetry, analyzing various poems, practicing identifying and using figurative language, and creating our own poems with meaning and intentional formatting!

All students participated in a “Poetry Pow-Wow” on Thursday, December 22nd. This allowed for all students of all grades to share their poems with each other multiple times throughout the day and even consisted of the eighth graders teaching a lesson on SLAM poetry! We ended the day with student volunteers reading their poems to the entire school. It was exciting to see students show off their creative poetry skills with each other and learn more about each other – across grade levels!
